Even though your high school student might seem very independent, you can still support their overall development in just five minutes or less with tips from this video, produced by the Parent Toolkit.

Five Minutes to Spare - High School

KATE SNOW, reporting:

Raising a teenager is no small task. While it may seem like your high school student no longer needs your help, you still have a lot of influence in their overall development and can guide them to being successful adults. Try to take a quick walk around the block together before school or after dinner. Exercise is great for the body and mind. It's a great way to manage stress. While you're taking time to walk together, develop your student’s debating skills by talking about news and current events. Ask for your teen’s opinion and if you disagree, ask your teen to try and change your mind. And also ask how classes are going, or any books they're enjoying. Is there a particular subject your teen is doing well in? Identifying strengths or interests can help your teen plan for life after high school.
