Introducing new, healthy foods into a child's diet is not always easy. Tips in this Parent Toolkit video offer ways to help tame picky eaters.

Eat Your Food!

PETER ALEXANDER, reporting:

Mealtime is a breeze with a few tips to tame the picky eaters in your household. Start a "take as many bites as you are old" rule at the dinner table. And introduce new foods again and again. It can take as many as 10 tries before a child gets used to a new food. Different preparations can also make a difference. Didn’t like raw carrots? Try roasting. Not in to beans? Try making them into hummus. Smoothies can be a great way to get extra veggies into a meal. Add spinach or other veggies and let your child see that foods they think are icky can actually taste great. Use toothpicks or cocktail forks to make bite-size foods more fun. Add sauces like ranch, ketchup, or homemade dips. And don't forget to set a good example and eat your veggies too!
